Peaceful mind

One of my very good friends recent blog really made me to think.
The first thing which stroke my mind is why have wemade our lifes so complicated?
In every aspect.  And every sence.
There is much to life than following the simple rules.
It sure sounds ok not to interfere in others business unless asked.
Who knows how the world would have been....?....
If the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luthar King, Abraham Lincon had not interfered....
If the likes Gautam Buddha, Swami Vivekananda had ignored the feeling of interfering in common men's struggle for existance....
If Lord Krishna had choosen to distance himself from interfering in the clash between step brothers...
So, its advisable to interfere in any situation if it serves a larger purpose.

There is no rule that jealousy can be only distructive..
And every healthy jealousy leads to a better result.
Take for instance in sports.
A sports person can achieve bette,r if he/she feels jealous of others achievements..
Lets say no to destructive jealousy and welcome compitatie healthy jealosuy.

Recognition is some thing which runs away if some one carves for it.
Every single person on this earth has his/her own value and reason for being here.
The key is to understand the self's potential and be dedicated to it.
Recognition comes searching:

Be a Roman while in Rome i the most dangerous saying of all.
Every person is unique and this kills the uniqueness of every person.
And I strongly support who ever wants to preserve this uniquness.

And Lastly, there is a difference between biting more than we can chew and aiming for things we really want.
I say dont ever raise your hand to touch the sky...
But,
if you ever rise it, dont let it down until and unless you can touch it.

Lets Live our life fruitfully. Some hurdles may try to stop us. Lets not give ourselves up to things who others think best suited for us.

Me and Swamy Vivekananda

From past few days, I was in a impression that I'm going thru a lean phase..

I was thinking why in the whole world I'm being subjected to the things I'm going thru.

One good thing I have always done is, when ever I'm down I try to reach to Swamy vivekananda.

As if he listens to me and speaks to me.

Last night I spent a whole lot of time with him. (reading his biography)

I asked him why, why and a lot of why's.

He said ---

When I Asked God for Strength
He Gave Me Difficult Situations to Face

When I Asked God for Brain & Brown
He Gave Me Puzzles in Life to Solve

When I Asked God for Happiness
He Showed Me Some Unhappy People

When I Asked God for Wealth
He Showed Me How to Work Hard

When I Asked God for Favors
He Showed Me Opportunities to Work Hard

When I Asked God for Peace
He Showed Me How to Help Others

God Gave Me Nothing I Wanted
But, He Gave Me Everything I Needed.

                            -Swamy Vivekananda

lessons we forget

A very common but most lethal mistake any person can do in life is to have over confidance.
Seldom, this over confidance on some one leads to grave misunderstandings and it might prove fatal at times.
Its not fun to dig own grave.

Girl Power

Apart from team sports like cricket and Hockey, India has produced just a finger count champions in any individual events..
And when it comes to women in world sports.. the count stops on a single digit..
Just imagine there is only one Sania mirza who is creating waves in international level.
Saina Nehwal had announced her arrival in style at the recent Olympics..
And had proved her mettle in the chinese Taipai grand prix in Sep 2008.
And now she has sealed a top spot for herself in Indian women's sporting events.
This is the first time any Indian women has won a Super series Title..
Congrats Saina..
Hoping to see you soon on the top slot of world rankings.
Sports Authorities (and fans) of India,,
Its time you people opened your eyes to sports other than cricket.

West Bengal: A dead State

Not long ago West Bengal used to house personalities like Netaji, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda etc.. the list goes endless....
what all WB has given to India.. who can forget the electrifying Vandemataram by Bankim chandra Chattopadhyay or the INA which had almost got us independence. or the famous Chicago speech of swamy Vivekananda, which changed the world view towards India and Hinduism in particular.
Truly, WB was the crown of India in all aspects..
Its very unfortunate and saddening to know the present WB.. Specially after the independence.. I wonder what happened to the once fertile state.. How it is producing people like the CPM and CPI members..and the Maoists..
Do they know the words human rights?
Nandigram, Singur and the very recent Lalgharh has murdered the human rights of adivasis. Its strange why the adivasis always used as either baits or the human shields in battle fronts.. as many as 50,000 adivasis are being used as human shields by maoists against the state forces in Midnapur area. And the left is more concerned about their handful of workers of that area..
Two days back Maoists declared the area as liberated (from whom? ). And the central government without any worry passed on the responsibility on the state government. May be it would have reacted in different way if the state govt is a part of UPA..
God save this country.

Almost 90 % of reports have been rejected by governments..

Tiger n my wife !

hi friends, hope all are doing well..

I'm back with yet another of my lil sisters poetry..

Bengalis are fun :) dont beleive? just read on....

On shooting Tiger I am bent
Boshtaard Tiger has eaten wife
No doubt I will avenge poor darling's life

Too much quiet, snakes and leeches
But I not fear these sons of beeches
Hearing loud noise I am jumping with start
But noise is coming from damn fool's heart
Taking care not to be fright
I am clutching rifle tight with eye to  sight

Should Tiger come I will shoot and fall him down
Then like hero return to native town
Then through trees I am espying one cave
I am telling self - "Bannerjee be brave"
I am now proceeding with too much care
>From far I smell this Tiger's lair

My leg shaking, sweat coming, I start to pray
I think I will shoot Tiger some other day
Turning round I am going to flee
But Tiger giving bloody roar spotting this Bengalee
He bounding from cave like football player Pele
I run shouting"Kali Ma tumi kothay gele"

Through the jongole I am running
With Tiger on my tail closer looming
I am telling that never in life

I will risk again for my damn (fool) wife!!!!

Thank you,
Preeti

Saare Jahaan Se Achcha !?

Its election time in India.

News viewers are exposed to an overdose of political permutations and combinations, every news media is coming out with.

I was wondering, how it (the elections )is significant to a common man.

On an election day, I very proudly get up little early and walk towards my poling booth, making sure I'm not forgetting my documents.

I stand in the short queue for a while before the presiding officer can verify my documents and permit me to cast my vote.

I return home with a sense of fulfilling my responsibilities.

There are crores like me who want to contribute their bit to the Indian political process.

The question is, are we getting what we deserve?

Very sadly I have to say, NO.

Our electoral process might be the biggest and the most transparent one. At the same time it has the most dangerous elements too.

Its not necessary for any body to be an elected representative to become the center of power. Any and everybody can become CM or PM with out even contesting elections, let alone winning. We have seen it in the cases like Rabri Devi, Rajiv Gandhi etc.

Even a Rajya sabha nominated person like Manmohan Singh can hold the PM's post, without a single vote in support of him.

In this coalition government’s era, electorates have to sit rubbing their hands when a independent member holds the government for ransom.

One man's greed can mount to the fall of govt thus forcing an untimely election.

Operation Kamala of Karnataka is another example for the low Indian politics has sunk to.

1)We can not elect our ruler,

2)We can not elect our government,

3)We can not elect any idea,

4)We can not elect even a sixth division government employee,

5)Most importantly we can not do any thing for five years, if the elected rep is not up to our expectations.

We just elect a bunch of people who might not get a chance to voice our concerns because of the unholy political games the parties play post election.

That’s why I fail to understand the significance of the present election system.

Billions of rupees are spent on a completely misused process.

Not to forget the loss of life and the public property during it.

To make some one more equal to us, people don’t hesitate to lay down their lives !

What we need is the power to directly elect our nations key power stations such as CM, PM And the President.

Then only we can control people like Shibu soren, Mayawati, Mulayam, etc.

Saare Jahan Se Achcha, Hindusthan Hamaara.

We have the responsibility to keep it Achcha .

But, Is any one listning?.

Pakistan= Failed State

The recent developments in our neighboring countries are extremely disturbing. It all started on 26/11. The fatal, unfortunate attack on the commercial hub of India exposed duel face of Pakistan’s administration. The question most of Indian leaders asking is who is controlling Pakistan. It looked as if every responsible (!) person in the state has an own official stand and not very surprisingly, every person seems to differ from other's stand (Ha Ha).News channels across world are not yet tired of exposing the lies of Pakistan officials including the elected president. They must be having some good reasons to contradict from their own statement with in couple of hours.

Pakistan took this state of confusion to its advantage and quietly handed over SAWT to the most dreaded terrorist organization of the world. Though it is not official, if the media reports can be trusted, its Taliban which is controlling a significant area of Pakistan. Welcome to the world of pelting stones to kill a woman, cutting limbs, public hangings, Zero women rights etc. Pakistan moved ten thousand years back in a jiff.

And there was this mutiny in Bangladesh. Mindless killing of officers tell other story. It might be a pre planned war against the elected government. At present, Bangladesh has a government which wants to have a friendly relation with India. Naturally, its Pakistan which loose out on its plans if this India friendly government stays in power for long.

Today’s' mindless firing at the Srilankan cricketers is a clear indication Pakistan has turned in to a terrorist nation if not a failed state. How in the world will any other players will visit this nation of terrorists? Even Pak players and citizens are non welcome across the world.

Mr. Zardari, for once accept that you have a problem and see. Every nation will come forward to help you. The people across the world are fed up of this Islamic terrorism. Do not trade your nation's little left pride to safeguard terrorists. Terrorists have not elected you. It’s the peace loving citizens who stood in queue, faced lathi-charge, golibar etc to elect you people to power. So, its your duty to safe guard their interest.

Its impossible to count the number of terrorist organizations operating from Pakistan. ISI looks more like a state sponsored terrorist organization.

It appears as if the last destination of Killers and dons has become Pakistan. And quite amazingly all the known dreaded terrorists have disappeared and gone non traceable in Pakistan itself!!!!!!!!

I have a very good suggestion for UPA. UPA, more particularly Indian National Congress can form an independent government after the next elections. Instead of living in fear the present caretaker Indian government should take some surprise action now. Crush all these terrorist organization across the border. And 90% votes will follow you.

What the media missed

From past few days the major followup story of all Indian news channals is, Pak's admission of kasabs nationality. No doubt that this is very significant towards the bilateral issues of the two neighbouring countries.
But, in a race to out do one another, the media has failed to acnowledge an as equal significant development in our judicial system. And it is the Nethari verdict.
It is very significant because of the Special court's suo-moto observations.
Not long ago, the CBI team was looked upon as the elite investigating agency of India. When all agencies fail to deliver, its this very CBI which used to squeez out truth from nowhere. The infrastructure and the reach it has is state of the art.
But the problem started when   almost all central governments started to misuse the credibality this agency had and, thus began the down fall of CBI. Of late, this elite force has become just a weapon to threaten the oposition parties!

The toothlessness of CBI came in to light when they gave clean chit to Pandher. The political reach of this pandher is not very secreat. The media had exposed the names of investigating (pre CBI takeover) officers who used to attend the lavish parties pandher used to thorw. Its quite natural that this officers might have done everything possible to protect this person. But the question is, how an advanced agency can propably miss the links and give a clean chit to this rapist and killer? A domestic help can not rape and kill a dozen and a half innocent girls, and burry them in the back yard of the house. If the CBI thinks like this, they need to take the lesson of criminology from the word go. The most common alibi a criminal would use is showing himself away from crime spot at that perticular time. In this case even that alibi was far from proof. Where the CBI failed, the court stepped in and the justice is finally done.

The nation was horrified by the reports of how these duo used to butcher the dead and some times eat them too (sick).

Thanks to the special CBI designated court which has over looked the CBI's clean chit to this Person(!). And, it has handed over the ultimate punishment to these cannibal duo.

The media missed highlighting the significance of this judjement. It should have started a discussion on how the CBI is being mis used by our governments. And how this misuse is shattering the confidence and releiability of the agency. Recently they (CBI) have failed to uncover the tragic end of another girl child, Aarushi.

Public openion can make wonders. The recent developments after the unfortunate 26/11 incident proves that the citizen's has the power to clean-up the political machinary.

The media and the citizen's forum can use this judgement to clean up the CBI from political influences and restore its lost glory.

Child hood days

This is yet another of Preeti's work which I could not resist from sharing.
Just a couple of week back I had visited my Primary school.
(Govt. higher primary school, Gauribeebanur, Karnataka) On 26th Jan to be precise.
I could not meet any of my teachers, as they all have retired.
I felt very sorry for not able to remember most of their names. Disappointed
But I surely revisited my child hood which I had long forgotten.
The head miss was kind enough to permit me to join the kids after the republic day celebrations.
Thank you Chitra miss, for making my day.
I remembered this poetry which I had read long back.
I wish I could revisit some of my carefree child hood daysSmile

Child hood Days

Lying on the grass I see...
Birds flying happy and gay,
I was one among them
During my childhood days
Wandering without clothes
nothing to hide...
Innocent and unacquainted
with the world so wide,
Smiles that could pass through woods and heavy tide..
Bloomed with laughter and never cried..
Smelling of twigs,dung and hay..
I still remember my childhood days
As days began to get hotter and hotter,
My childhood memories began to totter.
Physical and mental changes..
Wondered what happened to my parents only daughter,
And before dawn ....
My childhood had gone....
Now people call me teen,
This is the worst nightmare I have ever seen.
Here I am alone in this city,
NO ONE TO FEEL SORRY NO ONE TO PITY :(

Life of A swamy: part 1

'Maatru Devobhava’ literally means ‘Hail, Mother Goddesses’. It’s the first thing any student of not so older India has to learn. Our tradition has kept mothers ahead of father, teacher and the god him/herself.

I got to put my hands on some of the best books written on Swami Vivekananda at ‘Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari’.  It’s a place every Indian has to visit at least once in life time.  The mighty Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea converge here to form the southern end of Indian subcontinent.  The first thing most of the visitors want to visit at Kanyakumari is the Swami Vivekananda memorial rock, situated half a mile away from the sea shore.

A young monk wandering across India to find answers for the raging questions in his mind, reached kanyakumari by the Feb 1892. He was very much disturbed by the dismal state of India, especially the younger generation. The Young monk was in search of an isolated place to sit and bring together the ocean of ideas waving in his mind.  The isolated rock, away from all attention and disturbances, seemed as an ideal place for him. He dint hesitate a bit to jump in to the sea which was infamous for its killer sharks. He swam half a mile across defying killer ocean waves and the sharks to reach the huge rock island. For three days and nights he meditated on this isolated rock and found answers to his quest. He was able to decide his course of action towards the future of India and its people.

Its from this point, he emerged as the social activist, youth leader, a swami, what ever we could think of him.

(By the way, his birth day is being celebrated as international youth day by the UN)

One can not forget his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Devi’s contribution in transforming Narendranath Dutta in to Swami Vivekananda.

As a child, Narendra was like any other child we come across. Full of questions and most diverged interests.

One day after returning from a trip, young Narendra announced his wish to grow in to a horse cart driver. He was very much fascinated by the horse cart driver’s skills, which just dropped them home.

Narendra’s father got wild after hearing his son’s desire. Bhuvaneshwari Devi just smiled and took her son to the Geetopadesha portrait they had at their prayer room.

“Here my son, you have all the right to decide what you want to become. If you decide to become a driver I want you to become a driver like Sri Krishna, who drove millions towards prosperity by giving bhagavadgita. Its up to you if you want to a driver for the hand full or the entire mankind!”

The incident left an everlasting impact on child Narendra’s approach; he grew to become Swamy Vivekananda.

A.R. Rehman.

Roja was a trendsetting film in south Indian film industry. Mani Ratnam tried to blend two entirely different subjects like Romance and Patriotism and the subject became an instant hit with Indian cine goers. The dubbed version became a bigger hit with north Indian audience.

The biggest find of the movie was A.R.Rehman. This first timer’s music played a major role in bringing out the soul of ‘Roja’

‘Time’ listed the sound track in its all time top 100 tracks.

Cinna Cinna Aasai won the national award and the youngest music director became a brand by himself.

If I can remember each and every frame of the movie even after 16 years of its release, its because of the plot and the background score of the movie.

With in no time this wonder kid becomes talk of the nation. Sound tracks like Chaiyah chaiyah of Dil Se, masti ki path shaala of Rang de Basanti, Rangeela, etc made him immensely popular.

His interpretation of Vande Maataram is the best visual treat of recent independent albums.

To day morning I woke up to sweet surprise news. This musical genius has won Golden Globe for his music for Slum dog Millionaire. Two thumbs up to the musical maestro for his achievement.

I have not heard the full version Jai ho track. I’m waiting for its release in India.

Three officers.

I'm visiting this state government (licensing) office for some work for quite some time. Just because I'm not ready to bribe, the work which usually takes around an hour, is still pending for me. From past three months I visit this office on every Saturday and, it has become like my part time office destination.

I’m planning to use RTI act to know why my work is not being done.

As usual I was there last Saturday also. The clerk hinted at an amount to me. I made it very clear that I’m no game for it.  Surprisingly, I dint get irritated this time. Instead, I remembered this joke I had heard long back.

“I’m ready to wait for another six months.” I told the clerk with a smile and went out to have a cup of coffee.

I’ve slightly changed to joke for my convenience.

Three government officers from Switzerland, America and India went to hell. They were asked their last wish. Swiss man wanted to make a call to his manager asking him to make an immediate delivery to a customer. He spoke for a minute and he was charged a bill for $1.  Then American officer made a call to his office and instructed about the pending work. He spoke for 2 minutes and he was charged $2. Lastly Indian officer made a call to his Assistant. He instructed him about the pending works and hinted about the price negotiated for each file. He inquired about his boss. Assistant replied that he has not seen him for couple of weeks. He inquired about the new government policy and helped his assistant in finding loop holes. Then he started inquiring about his family and friends.

He went on speaking for almost 2 hours. As he finished he was given a bill for $0. All the three officers were very surprised to know the bill amount. They thought it was an error.

Upon inquiring, the billing clerk of hell made it clear to them that it was not a mistake. They had a free call facility from hell to hell! SurprisedTongue out

A year to Discover

Indians and Greeks were the first to announce the heliocentric theory.  But it took centuries for the rest to accept the truth. It was only in 16th century, Nicolas Copernicus demonstrated to the west that the motion of celestial objects can be explained by not keeping earth as the center. This realization of truth triggered what we can call a scientific revolution. Astronomy and physics saw fundamental transformations in its basic principles. In a sense Copernicus’ book ‘De revolutionibus orbium coelestium’ gave birth to what we call the ‘Modern Science’ today.

Galileo Galilee played a major role in supporting Copernicus’s theory. Out of his numerous contributions to the modern science, improvement of telescope was responsible for the birth of modern observational astronomy. He turned to two glass pieces which were being used by the pirates towards the sky. And lo. He found answers for a whole lot of unanswered questions. (The sad part of the story is, he was sent to prison for life for contradicting the Catholic Church belief that the earth can not be moved.).

The fun part is, the telescope developed by Galileo was largely ignored till late 19th century. Even Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh tried to find answers by constructing gigantic observatories ( Jantar Mantar at Jaipur) in 1734.

But the revolution had begun as an under current. What begun as an epiphany has revolutionized it to today’s modern science.

Very rightly the UN has announced 2009 as the International year of Astronomy. It’s a fitting tribute to all the great people who have contributed in achieving today’s knowledge about the planet we are living on. And, a right step towards making Astronomy popular among Children and common men.

Let us turn the telescope towards universe. Who knows? We may find a moon, a meteor or a comet is waiting to be named after us!

After all IYA tag line is ‘The Universe: Yours to discover’

A poem from my friend

I just wanted to share a positive thought penned by my friend Preeti Venkateshan.

Problems..

Look! I heard them pour
On the roof with a feeble uproar
Cascading the tiny gaps of the door
Into my mind, away from the shore.

They boiled hotter brimming with doubt.
I wondered what all the chaos was about
They told me they were my problems
And were waiting for a chance to sprout.

I wondered with utmost amaze
Is this my life or just a phase?
I smiled and said “Be my guest”…
Stay for long, this is your nest…

They were more than happy to stay
They troubled me indeed everyday
But I smiled with having nothing to say…
Rather than seeking Mirth,
With them I started to play.

New Hopes

The recent media report suggests that Omar Abdullah is all set to become the next CM of J & K. I really hope this will turn in to reality.RainbowSunSleeping half-moon

This particular election has literally opened new doors of hope. It has provided century old political party with a chance to prove itself. The congress should grab this opportunity with both hands. Light bulb

India, especially the J & K region needs a young, dynamic and nationalist leader like Omar. Years of divisive politics has entirely ruined the valley. As the NC does not enjoy absolute majority, it needs an external support. And quite naturally NC is looking towards congress leadership for it. NC does not want to loose its secular (?) tag by joining hands with BJP. Confused

At present it does not matter who join hands with whom. What really matters is how fast the valley will return to national mainstream. And who delivers. Clock

As every one knows, in politics no one is enemy for life. Forget all the differences for a while and work together. At least friendship between Rahul and Omar should prove handy at times like these. Secret telling

Time and again its proved that development will be the main issue for voters. J & K has proved it again. They have voted for want of better infrastructure. It’s the duty of elected representatives to fulfill their expectations.

By showing their faith in democracy, the people of J & K have taken a couple of steps forward in bringing normalcy to the valley. Now its time for politicians to show that they too care for the betterment of the valley.  Red roseRed rose

ps. Its funny to see the PDP which was in no mood for the elections is front runner in claiming responsibility for the high voter turn out in the valley.Wink

Tata institute.

Year 1893 has proved to be one of the turning point in Indian history. It was in this year Swami Vivekananda introduced true Hinduism to the world through the parliament of world religions. His welcome speech at the summit attracted prolonged standing ovation and, transformed Hinduism in to the global religion.

A little before the speech, unknowingly he had put the foundation for a modern and scientifically advanced India. While traveling to Chicago he had met a young and dynamic personality who was trying to bring steel industry to India. And he was Jamsetji N Tata.
The young industrialist was very much impressed by the views of this young missionary on how important
science and education is, if India has to get rid of its poor country tag. .
J.N. Tata realized the need of a Science and education institution in India and wanted Swami Vivekananda to lead his campaign.
“Trust, you remember me as a fellow-traveler on your voyage from Japan to Chicago. I very much recall at this moment your views on the growth of the ascetic spirit in India... I recall these ideas in connection with my scheme of Research Institute of Science for India, of which you have doubtless heard or read”
He wrote to Swami Vivekananda a couple of years later. And needless to say, Swami Vivekananda endorsed the project. J.N. Tata then formed a committee which in due course (Dec 1898) presented a proposal of the institute to the then Viceroy of India.
The then King of Mysore state took personal interest in the project and donated 372 acres of land for the project.
Thus, the prestigious IISc was born on 27 May 1909.
Tata Institute, as it is popularly called is unique in its structure. It’s neither a research institute nor a conventional university. And it’s this uniqueness which has put this small institution way ahead from other universities. It has always tried to evaluate newer methods in imparting knowledge and educational reforms.
The J.R.D Tata library of IISc needs a special mention. With an annual budget of approximately 2.5 million US dollars, it is one of the best stop for science and technical literature.
The list of directors tells why this institute is ranked first among south Asian universities, by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. The likes of Sir C.V. Raman, Satish Dhavan, G. Padmanabhan are a few on the elite list of Directors. And at present it’s headed by P. Balaram.
This December, the Tata Institute is observing its centenary celebrations. Three cheers to the institution.
Some create history and the rest benefits from it.
